Social, Legal and Ethical aspects of IT

My name is Sully Behan and I’m studying IT Graphics and Games Design at Halesowen College.

The social aspects of IT are that when you are using using a computer there are many ways that you can communicate with other people such as E-mail where you can connect with other people

IT legal aspects are examples of things such as data theft. data theft is something that happens when somebody makes work and somebody else steals their work and uses it as their own without the permission of the other person.

Ethical aspects of IT are that you should not look at inappropriate images or videos on public computer and also that you should not deliberately make it hard for people to accesses the computers this is because it is a common rule in the IT industry that you don’t do these things.

Local communities– Local communities can be effected positively from IT for example people in a community can create a website for things such as community project because if they decided to start a project they could use the website to update it if there is a change of plan.

Economic effects– The economic effects of IT would be that if someone wanted to start a business they could because they could make and design their own website by themselves and use it to sell their products because it is a lot cheaper due to not having to pay for things such as tax, employees, rent, etc.

Sustainability– Sustainability means that it is more easily sustainable to keep the shop running for longer. It is easier to sustain a website than it is too sustain a brick and mortar shop because a lot of shops on the high street have started closing where as online shops are a lot more popular because they are easily to manage and control.

Legal aspects of IT

Copyright– When something conceptual gets tagged on something real so this means it is copyrighted for the rest of the authors life and additional 70 years because they were the person who created it.

Plagiarism– Plagiarism is when somebody breaks the copyright law and but not asking for permission when they used copyrighted material. Consequences of plagiarism would be a fine.

Ethical aspects

Privacy of information– When you are working on a business you have to keep peoples data private by law because of the data protection act.

There are 8 principals of the data protection act. They are: Fairly and lawfully processed, Processed for specified purposes, Adequate, relevant and not excessive, Accurate, and where necessary, kept up to date, Not kept for longer than is necessary, Processed in line with the rights of the individual, Kept secure, Not transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area unless there is adequate protection for the information. Also GDPR (general data protection regulation) which is more of data protection in general.

Unequal access of information– Sometimes unequal access is a good thing but other times it is bad.

For example a thing that unequal access of information is good for- It is that it is good for students that can access STaRS so they can see their grades but they won’t be able to change them. But teachers can change them.

But an example of a bad reason for unequal access is that all but one person can access a website but one person cant because it would make it unfair for them.

Why is it good to save frequently– It is good to save your work frequently because if there was to be a problem with the system you could lose a lot of your work because you forgot to save. But if you remember to save you work frequently your work will be safe.
